![]() From our beginning in Austin and migration to Boston: We came. We saw. We conquered. We moved down to the West Coast onto the City of Angels, the Best of the West, California. Went back to East Coast to Arlington Virginia the home of the Presidents. Now back to West Coast, Northern California, Silicon Valley. History was made in Austin Texas, July 2016, as Mbaise USA children, youth and young adult program was inaugurated and established. In July 2017, Boston, New York, Connecticut and Mbaise Worldwide, became part of the MUYYA’s history. Parents bring your younger ones, and young adults, seize the moment. Our boat is sailing down West Coast to Silicon Valley, the home of technology. We have one aim, to inculcate our unique culture and tradition to our youth for the purpose of our legacy and our cultural continuity. This is your chance to see the home of technology. Opportunity comes but once in a lifetime. The youth and young adults will show cased the following activities.
KOLANUT IN IGBO LAND AN EMBLEM OF CULTURAL IDENTITY, ITS ORIGIN AND SIGNIFICANCE; Most recently, out of the eagerness to learn the Igbo culture and heritage, most of our youths (males and females) did approach us with questions like What is this kolanut? What is the significance? Why is it part of the program in all the Nigerian functions? Why is it so unique and why is it accorded so much respect? Please bring them out to get the first-hand informative answers. The target age is from 6years to 21 years of age. NTOZU NWOKE NA NWAYNYI: The age of maturity. What most parents don’t know and have not informed their children about. The age of maturity is when one is no longer considered as a minor. Is when a young adult boy or a girl takes up the responsibility to start a family or to become fully involved in the community as an adult. This transition varies in societies; it is an important cultural ritual of Mbaise and its celebration varies among the three local governments. (1) Ahiazu (2) Ezinihitte (3) Aboh Mbaise. The Ntozu-Oke ceremony heralds a new phase in the lives of our youths and inculcates into them the qualities of sacrifices, commitment and discipline. Every culture has its cultural identity and values and it is our duty to ensure that the uniqueness of our culture is not lost by being assimilated into other cultures. IGBO TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IN MBAISE CULTURE Marriage is the foundation of every family and since Igbos practice extended family system that is based on solid linkage and network of families, it becomes important that marriage in Igbo land and among Igbos must be regarded as one of the pillars of the people’s tradition and culture. Although, Igbos as a matter of tradition and culture practice endogamy (marrying within) to certain extent, due to modernization, our people have travelled wide and made contact with other ethnic groups and races of the world. Since then they started the practice exogamy (marrying outside). Stages of Marriage: There are 8 stages of marriage in Mbaise tradition. The whole process could last for one year depending on the family’s resources and the level of community participation differs with each stage… Udo diri unu…ooh umunnem! Bia gbaranu anya unu Chistimas oooooh. Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Jane Anulika Ehieze Akponye, Ada Mbaise, na achikota Umuanyi na Ogboko Mbaise USA. |
